With Georgetown's loss to DePaul on Wednesday night in the Big East tournament and Maryland's loss Thursday to Florida State in the ACC tournament, it looks inevitable.

The Hoyas and the Terrapins will both miss the NCAA tournament, bound likely for the NIT. But just how rare is that in the same season? CSN stats guru Mike Lynch put it in perspective:

The question now will be if Maryland ends up meeting Georgetown in the NIT. Of course, there wouldn't quite be the luster of an NIT "showdown" than there would if it were in the NCAAs, but it'd surely illustrate the struggles of these two programs in 2013-14.
