Melvin Keihn defies the odds at Gilman
Gilman (Md.) outside linebacker Melvin Keihn has narrowed his list of possible suitors down to three schools--Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Tech--and will make announce his decision on Tuesday, Dec. 24, he said via Twitter on Sunday evening.
At 6-3, 220 pounds, Keihn is a four-star recruit and high-level athlete who has a knack for getting after the quarterback.
Were he to commit to Maryland, he would become coach Randy Edsall's 14th commit from the Class of 2014 and the seventh player on the defensive side of the ball.
As far as Maryland connections go, Keihn plays on the same team as Kai Locksley, Gilman's quarterback and the son of Maryland offensive coordinator Mike Locksley.
Maryland scored a major local commit on the defensive side of the ball in the fall when Good Counsel (Md.) defensive end Jesse Aniebonam committed to Maryland.
Comcast SportsNet profiled Keihn in a "Friday Night Feature" in mid-October, documenting his journey from war-torn Liberia to the United States.
