Maryland has scored its second commitment of the day Thursday, earning from a pledge from Texas two-star defensive lineman Mbi Tanyi. The 6-3, 245-pound senior announced the news via Twitter.

Tanyi joins four-star cornerback Kareem Ali as the second commit of the day and head coach Randy Edsall has now seen five players commit to his program in the last five days. The recent string of verbals has helped to grow Maryland's class to eight players total.
Tanyi committed to Maryland over offers from schools that included Houston, UTEP, and Louisiana Tech. Edsall unofficially confirmed the news in the manner he commonly does, via a tweet on Thursday evening.

Texas marks new territory for Maryland, which features only two players on the state on its current roster. Both of those players, Dustin Dailey and Ruben Franco, were not part of the regular rotation last season.
The credit likely goes in part to new Maryland wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell who has strong ties to the Houston area. Tanyi hails from Richmond, Texas, which is about 40 minutes outside of Houston.
Tanyi is Maryland's second defensive line commit from the class of 2015. He joins Potomac (Md.) prospect Keiron Howard.
