Maryland junior forward Jake Layman is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after fracturing a bone in his left hand earlier this month, a team spokesman has confirmed to CSNbaltimore.com.
The injury took play during a voluntary offseason pickup game and will not require surgery. He is expected to fully recover and return when the team begins practice in September.
InsideMDSports.com was the first to report the news.
Layman averaged 11.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season for the Terrapins, including a season-high 27 in a win over Morgan State in late November.
Teammate Trayvon Reed is also sidelined with an injury, out until at least August while he recovers from a broken ankle that he suffered in high school. Reed’s injury will not require surgery.
