Maryland target Joe Hampton of DeMatha Catholic (Md.) will transfer to Oak Hill (Va.), the 2016 prospect announced via his Twitter account on Thursday.

The 6-7, 247-pound forward is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and is keeping in contact with Maryland along with other schools that include Xavier, Penn State, West Virginia, and Notre Dame. He is the size of a small forward but with a power forward's game, meaning he could be a tweener at the next level.

But the skilled lefty can play. At the NBPA's Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Va., last month, Hampton held his own against older competition. He uses his body well and clears out space while he continues to develop his offensive game extending toward the perimeter.

Maryland has shown interest throughout the recruiting process.

"I've been in good contact with Maryland," Hampton told CSN in Charlottesville. "I'm up there all the time, whether it's going to a game or play pickup or whatever. Maryland, since that's my backdoor -- basically -- school, we're been in contact a lot.

"Trying to get a comfortable relationship with them, talking to them, coming to see, coming to visit and stuff."

Hampton is ranked as the No. 60 overall prospect in the country in the class of 2016, according to Rivals.com.
