As the old saying goes, there’s no better way to smooth over a transition to a new conference than to spend some time in the Caribbean.
That’s how the saying goes, right?
Whatever the case, when asked about whether he had been keeping an eye on ACC media day as it took place last week in Greensboro, N.C., Maryland head coach Randy Edsall was frank.
“No, I was in St. Thomas,” Edsall said Monday at Big Ten media day in Chicago, as aired on BTN. “And I was enjoying the heck out of St. Thomas.”
Perhaps more impressive than the patented dry Edsall humor was what came next, a deft pivot back to half-philosopher, half-coachspeak approach that you’ve come to love from everyone at media days.
“Change is inevitable in life. And what you do is you embrace change,” he said of moving to a new conference. “At the end of last season, we pretty much put it forward that this is where we’re going and this is what we have to concentrate on and this is what our future is.”
The only bad news? It'll be noticeably colder than that vacation when Maryland heads to the Big House to play Michigan on Nov. 22. Welcome to the Big Ten.
