In nearly a decade as an anchor and reporter for Comcast SportsNet, Chick Hernandez has become one of the most recognizable and respected authorities on the region's professional and college sports landscape.
As an anchor, Hernandez regularly provides comprehensive sports coverage on the network's daily half-hour news program, SportsNet Central - a position he held for the network's first news show in April 2001. Hernandez also serves as the host of the Emmy Award-winning Redskins Kickoff and Redskins Postgame Live, which air on Comcast SportsNet throughout the Washington Redskins season.
Hernandez also contributes extensively to CSN's marquee shows as a reporter. In this role, he regularly covers some of the nation's largest sporting events, including The Masters, and most popular teams, such as the Redskins and the Terrapins.
His status as a knowledgeable expert on local teams, along with his deep ties to the community, has made him an indelible part of the sports landscape in the region, as well as the television industry. His professionalism, dedication and skill as a broadcaster has earned him numerous honors and accolades, including three Capital Region Emmy Awards.
Prior to joining Comcast SportsNet, Hernandez worked for Fox SportsNet and spent seven years with Washington's WTTG FOX 5 in the sports department as an anchor and reporter. He got his start in broadcasting as an intern under the legendary James Brown.
A native of Silver Spring and graduate of the University of Maryland, Hernandez is very active in the community. He serves in various capacities for several charitable groups, including the YMCA, Neediest Kids and the Adoption Service Information Agency.
