Following are complete fantasy football rankings based on this week's matchups for all the major positions (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, team defense). They are based on a combined yardage/scoring system (4 points for a passing touchdown, 6 points for a rushing/receiving touchdown, one point for every 25 passing yards, one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards).

A word to the wise: Team motivations vary greatly in Week 17, so make sure you take a long look around the league as you make those critical Championship Decisions. Best as we can tell, this is how the playoff-bound and contending clubs will approach this week:

Will play to win: Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, Bengals, Jets, Titans, Broncos, Raiders, 49ers, Cowboys, Giants

Likely to play to win: Lions, Saints (though NO might call the dogs off if far ahead, or if San Francisco is mauling St. Louis)

Upgrade

Jabar Gaffney, WR, Redskins: His production has spiked since Fred Davis left the club. Gaffney has a solid 18 catches for 254 yards and two scores over the last month, showing a willingness to work the middle of the field and a solid rapport with Rex Grossman. He's never approached the star level during his 10-year career, but merely hanging around for that long shows something. Look for a solid finish against the Eagles.

David Akers, PK, 49ers: It's ridiculous to see 49 field-goal attempts in a season, let alone 42 makes (a new NFL record). The setup was perfect for Akers this year: home-weather team, conservative offense that didn't turn the ball over, ball-hawking and elite defense, winning ball club. Keep this in mind when you're looking at your 2012 fantasy kicker: you're really investing in a team setup more than you are the man kicking the pigskin. And in some pools, it's worth it to go rent-a-player for most of the season, playing the matchup game.

Toby Gerhart, RB, Vikings
While there's no replacing the one-and-only Adrian Peterson, let's give Gerhart his due: no one expected to see him carrying a 4.9 YPC through 94 attempts. He's also proven to be a capable receiver, snagging 22 passes and scoring on three of them. He'll get at least 20 touches in the season finale against Chicago, and it wouldn't be a shock if he sailed past the 30-touch mark. You'll appreciate the volume, and you might see a breakaway run here and there.

Quarterbacks

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) didn't practice all week, and is questionable against the Rams. He's a game-time decision, but should start.

Rams QB Sam Bradford (ankle) is doubtful, and teammate A.J. Feely (right thumb) has been ruled out again. Kellen Clemens gets another start against the Steelers.

Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb (head) is questionable after being limited in practice all week. It looks like another start for John Skelton against the Bengals.
