As thousands of fans were arriving for the Orioles’ FanFest celebration on Saturday morning, they were hearing the news that the team’s greatest manager, Earl Weaver died.
In March 2011, Dan Duquette’s predecessor was in the last year of his contract, and when Orioles owner Peter Angelos was asked about his status, he replied: “He’s not going anywhere.”
Three Christmases ago, Orioles fans weren’t really looking forward to the season.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter and team owner Peter Angelos have met several times to discuss a contract extension, Showalter said on Sunday.
Buck Showalter is the favorite to win the American League Manager of the Year Award when it's announced on Tuesday night. He's also likely to soon receive a contract extension.
