FORT MYERS, Fla. – A year ago, T.J. McFarland was an unknown Rule 5 draft choice. After he made it through his rookie year with the Orioles, he’s back, and in a very different spot.


In 2000, the Orioles drafted Jay Gibbons from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Rule 5 draft. It turned out to be an excellent pick.


The Orioles’ acquisition of Kelvin De La Cruz on Monday wasn’t a headline transaction. But, it wasn’t necessarily a minor one.


T.J. McFarland pitched creditably in his first season with the Orioles. The Rule 5 draft pick stayed the entire season, but didn’t pitch as often as he would have liked.


Dave Wallace has lots of pitchers to learn. One of the more intriguing is Steve Johnson.
