Suggs on Flacco: 'He's always going to be Cool Joe'
In Joe Flacco’s five seasons with the Ravens, he has never missed the playoffs, nor has he ever missed a start.
Flacco’s durability is often overlooked when discussing his worth. Sure, Flacco has been lucky, but he has also been resilient and willing to play through aches and pains. When is the last time you heard Flacco mention an injury? Or call out an offensive lineman for missing a block?
Flacco wants his teammates to believe they can count on him. I asked Flacco on Tuesday if he took pride in never missing a start.
“I’m definitely proud that I can say that I’m there for my team every Sunday,” Flacco said. “It’s not about being hurt, (or) not being hurt. It’s about being durable. As a player and as a quarterback, there really is only one of you on every Sunday. You just take pride in that you can show up for your teammates. You hopefully give the best performance that you can give each and every week. I definitely think that helps out a lot just in terms of being a leader on a team, as all the other guys can trust that you’ll be out there for them.”
Tyrod Taylor is the Ravens’ No. 2 quarterback. He will see action during the preseason, but after that?
“I’d like to keep his reps at a minimum – not necessarily during training camp – but all the other times,” Flacco said.
If Flacco has his way, Taylor will have the Ravens’ cleanest uniform once the regular season begins. Being a durable quarterback is part of what makes Flacco a winning quarterback.
